Surfing Republica- Ticos ven participación en la séptima fecha CT y el mejor surfing mundial continúa en El Salvador

Surfing Republica - Costa Ricans see participation in the seventh CT date and the best surfing in the world continues in El Salvador

The world's best male surfers begin competition on the waves of Punta Roca.

For the first time in CT surfing history and Salvadoran surfing, a stop on the world tour visits the waves of El Salvador, and the men's opening round and the women's elimination round continued the excitement of the first day of the Surf City El Salvador Pro 2022.

After watching the women's preliminary round, it was the boys' turn in the initial round and without a doubt the show was guaranteed.

The first male surfers to compete in this seventh event were Jordy Smith, Ethan Ewing, and Yago Dora, the latter making his second appearance on the 2022 CT thanks to a wildcard entry. The FlorianĂłpolis native achieved a combined score of 14.27 points, with the highest wave of the day worth 9.00 points, securing a solid first-place position.

In the second heat, another opportunity awaited Costa Rican surfer, Carlos Muñoz, at a CT event—a highly anticipated return for the Latin American and Costa Rican surfing community. “Cali” faced Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi and Australia’s Connor O’Leary. Muñoz gave it his all, but couldn’t find his best form and was eliminated.

“I did very well in my first heat, the conditions are a bit difficult because of the wind, but I managed to get through, I had a good catch and I’m happy, I just hope the waves improve,” Yago Dora told Surfing Republica.

Later, local surfer Bryan Pérez from Punta Roca entered the competition. The Salvadoran sought his best waves, however, he was unable to overcome Brazilian Filipe Toledo and American Nat Young and now he must try to advance in the elimination round.

The highest combination for the men was obtained by Gabriel Medina, who with 14.50 points secured his place in the round of 16 and awaits his opponent who will emerge from the elimination round.

Following the men's opening round, the women's competition resumed, this time with the elimination round. Carissa Moore, with the highest score of the day (15.66 points), advanced to the quarterfinals. Joining the American in the quarterfinals are Johanne Defay, Caroline Marks, and Stephanie Gilmore.

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy is out of the event after competing in the women-to-women elimination heat against Caroline Marks, unfortunately finishing second. It's worth noting that Brisa suffered a cut in her first heat of the Surf City El Salvador Pro 2022, requiring eight stitches, yet she still attempted to compete in the elimination round.

The action continues today, Thursday, with the men's elimination round and other rounds of the event. You can watch the event live at: https://www.worldsurfleague.com/posts/503240/its-on-day-4-of-the-surf-city-el-salvador-pro-presented-by-corona?roundId=18346&statEventId=3896
