Two athletes advanced to the third main round and six were eliminated in the repechage. This was the outcome for the third day of competition for the Costa Rican representatives at the Junior World Surfing Games.
While falling into the repechage means a slightly longer path in the competition and implies having no margin for error, it doesn't mean it's a bad thing; some of the best current surfers have had to walk through a world championship repechage at some point and continue to shine to this day.
The action continues at the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2022, and our country remains in action with its entire team. This year's world championship has been quite competitive, and despite a nearly two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, some surfers have managed to maintain their competitive edge to compete in events of this magnitude.
Today our country saw action in all categories in the main round and with a result of 2 out of the 8 athletes who competed today, this is how our country will face the rest of the world championship, at least in the main round.
Our country now has 10 of its 12 athletes in the repechage, however, as we mentioned at the beginning of this note, this path does not imply disappointment, it simply means that the Costa Ricans will now have to surf more heats and cannot afford any lapses in attention.
The athletes who managed to advance their heats today were Erika Berra and David Monge, both in second place in their heats and will now have some very interesting heats in search of continuing towards the fourth main round of the games.
Meanwhile, Tamaya Murphrey, Rachel Agüero, Lia DÃaz, Auxiela Ryan, Romeo Stone and Axel Castro fell to the repechage and join Ethan Hollander, Tosh Talbot and Jesús Pérez who unfortunately fell in those stages in the first days.
