Today marked the start of the opening ceremonies for the Surf City El Salvador Pro 2022, the seventh stop on the world surfing tour where only the best athletes in the world compete.

The first call to competition is scheduled for 7:00 am tomorrow in El Salvador time; however, the organization will determine whether the competition will take place as planned or be postponed until Monday, depending on the wave conditions.

Today, the world's best surfers took the opportunity to continue training on the right-hand wave of Punta Roca, and athletes such as ĂŤtalo Ferreira, Carissa Moore, Brisa Hennessy, Griffin Colapinto, among others, demonstrated that we can expect a tournament full of radical maneuvers and the highest level of competition.

Surfing Republica asked current #1 ranked surfer Carissa Moore about the wave and these were her statements:

“I love the wave, it’s fun, and if you come to El Salvador, you have to experience the wave and the place. I’m really excited that the CT is here. My expectations right now are neutral. I have to be careful, but it’s a level playing field for everyone, since it’s the first time and everyone is still adapting. I want to give it my all and have a good experience, and I think if that happens, no matter the result, it’s a success for me,” said current world No. 1 in the women’s rankings, Carissa Moore.

The local organization in El Salvador is very motivated and excited about the first CT event in Central American history and hopes that everything will go as planned.

“For us, it is a source of pride and great satisfaction to have won the bid to host this event, a stop on the CT tour, which is the pinnacle of the surfing world. We are very motivated not only for our country but also for the Central American region. This event will further enhance the image of El Salvador and the region as a whole. Three Central American competitors will be participating in this stop, which is a great source of motivation for them. We are now working towards a dream that, thanks to President Nayib Bukele, has seen a significant effort to establish surfing as a means of sustainable development for the country and attract more investment, not only private but also public. This is part of a broader strategy implemented through Surf City,” stated Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador.

The Minister also highlights today's victory of Bryan Pérez, a local surfer from Punta Roca who will compete in this CT stop thanks to his victory in the trials prior to the event.
