Surfing Republica - The Surfing Republica tournaments return, brought to you by Tsunami Sushi
Playa Hermosa will once again host a surf circuit with great cash prizes.
After a break from the Surfing Republica surf circuit due to the pandemic, when the tournaments were held at night, the great excitement returns to Playa Hermosa on Saturday, December 17th, this time with events that, in addition to the open category, will also include male and female master, longboard and SUP surf categories.
The first edition of the Tsunami Sushi Surfing Championship will be held in front of the Bowies Point facilities in Playa Hermosa and will have eight categories with cash prizes for them.
Marco Montero, general manager and founder of the specialized surf media outlet Surfing Republica, elaborates further on this event and the circuit in general.
When do you plan to hold these events and where will they be?
The tournaments will be in championship format and will be called the Tsunami Sushi Surfing Championship.
They will be held once a month, starting in December and ending in April, and the location of this first event will be in front of the Bowie's Point restaurant in Playa Hermosa.
Where did the idea for these events come from?
The idea behind this championship is to continue promoting and developing surfing in the country, given the lack of competitive tournaments, and to offer a substantial cash prize purse. We will be awarding $2,000 in cash plus prizes from sponsors per event.
What type of events will they be (format) and what categories will they have?
The tournaments will be Open for men and women, but we'll also be including the Master, Longboard, and SUP Surf categories, which are somewhat neglected. At the last Pan American Games in Panama, we realized the importance of promoting these categories, as they are very well-developed in other countries, and if we don't promote them, we won't be able to win medals in these types of events.
Where will the awards ceremony be held, and what other activities besides the tournament will take place?
The awards ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm at the Pesca Seafood restaurant in Jaco Walk with DJs, live music, food and drinks for the whole family.
