Surfing Republic - Rachel Agüero and Óscar Urbina are crowned champions of the National Surfing Reactivation Challenger



Playa Guiones did not disappoint and the best national surfing left a great impression on those present at the last date of the reactivation of Costa Rican surfing.

The final challenge took place the previous weekend at Playa Guiones in Nosara and awarded the final points to determine the champions of the Costa Rican surfing Reactivation Challenger events.


In total, there were four dates organized by the San José Wave Riders Association with the endorsement of the Costa Rican Surf Federation, where a great impression was left with great surfers who demonstrated in all the dates that despite not having national competitions for some time, the level continues and the national surfing community eagerly awaits the return of the National Surf Circuit.

During the four dates the level of the athletes was very noticeable and one of them was Rachel Agüero, who was crowned champion in three categories, open, junior and girls, a feat achieved only previously by Rubiana Brownell, but in a complete National Surf Circuit.

In the men's category, the big winner would be the Caribbean Óscar Urbina, who showed what he is made of and maintained a consistent surfing throughout all the Challenger dates.

David Monge from Jacoba achieved first place overall in the junior category and is raising his hand to be considered for the national junior team that will soon compete in the world championship in the category.


In the under 16 age categories, the talented young man from Dominical, Ethan Hollander, was crowned champion and confirmed the future potential he brings.



This last date also served as a parameter for the coach of the national junior team, Diego Naranjo, who was finalizing the details of the tricolor team that will represent us in the Junior World Surfing Games El Salvador 2022 and in the coming days the final list of chosen athletes will be announced.
