Surfing Republica - Punta Roca will be the next stop on the WSL Championship Tour

El Salvador will host the world's best surfers on the perfect right-handers of Punta Roca.

The waves of El Salvador will be the stage for a new sporting event. For the first time, the country will host the Championship Tour (CT) of the World Surf League (WSL ) , the most important event worldwide for this sport .

Thus, the WSL places Punta Roca among the world's top beaches, at the level of Pipeline ( Hawaii ), Western (Australia) , Saquarema (Brazil) and Peniche (Portugal), which are also included in the 2022 tour.

This event will allow the country the highest level of media exposure as a tourist destination worldwide and will be the perfect opportunity for international athletes and foreign visitors to get to know a destination that is positioning itself globally, thanks to Punta Roca having one of the best right-hand waves in the world .

The event will take place from June 12th to 20th and will host 36 of the best surfers on the planet (12 women and 24 men) . among which the following stand out Australians Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons , Hawaiian Carissa Moore and Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb . Among the male stars are Brazilians Filipe Toledo, Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina; Japanese Kanoa Igarashi and American Kelly Slater, who is considered a legend in the sport of surfing and waves .
“We are proud that, for the first time, El Salvador can host such a large event and that the WSL has placed its trust in the country to organize an event of this kind, which is allowing us to promote the country through its waves,” said the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.

The realization of this world-class event This represents a significant boost for El Salvador's tourism sector ; the economic benefits of hiring hotels, transportation, and food for the athletes will further strengthen the sector's growth and recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
