The national tells us what he thought of this experience at the Mexican Pipe.
The idea originated about a year ago, after some friends of Darshan visited Puerto Escondido to surf this incredible wave.
This year, Antequera was certain of one thing: he absolutely had to go on the surf trip. Covering his own expenses with work and the help of sponsors, the man from Santiago joined the adventure.
Darshan is one of the rising stars of Costa Rican surfing and is aware that to be at the highest level, being a lover of big waves, he had to surf this wave, after surfing Pipeline in Hawaii a few years ago.
Antequera shared a bit of his adventure through Mexico with us, and here is the interview.
How did the idea of traveling to Mexico come about?
It all started because my friends Andy Chacón, Dennis Picado, and Alex Rocha were here last year and caught some amazing waves. So, I wanted to come with them this year and see how I'd do with the bigger waves.
How many days are you staying? And when did you arrive?
I arrived on June 13th and I'm staying until July 5th, 23 days to have a chance at a good swell.

What did you think of your first experience on the Mexican Pipeline?
Being here has been an unforgettable experience. I don't think I've ever surfed such a big and powerful wave, apart from Pipeline, Hawaii. I haven't caught the wave I'm looking for yet, but I'm still searching for that perfect barrel.
How many days have you surfed in Puerto Escondido?
I've surfed Puerto every day since I arrived. We had one really big day and the rest have been pretty small, 3-4 feet. But we're waiting for two more swells that look really good.

Have you surfed other waves?
So far I've only surfed Zicatela and Puerto Escondido. But we're planning to go to Barra de la Cruz.
Have you ever had a wipeout?
The wipeout itself wasn't too rough yet. But yeah, after a barrel with no exit, the wave behind me crashed right on my head—a wave at least 15-18 feet high. It pulled me under really fast and didn't give me a chance to decompress my ears. I felt like my eardrum had ruptured, and I lost my balance a bit. But in the end, it brought me to shore, and everything was fine.

Which wave would you compare this wave in Puerto Escondido to?
The wave that most resembles Puerto to me is Hermosa, the thing is that Hermosa doesn't go above 15 feet, this place can get up to 30 feet with a good swell.
