Surfing Republica- Mañana arrancará el Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro Tour

Surfing Republica - The Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro Tour kicks off tomorrow

New continental champions will be crowned in Las Flores, El Salvador.

The waves of Las Flores will be the ones that define the next continental champions in the open men's, junior and longboard categories.

The women's open category still has one more date to hold in Chile, however, depending on the result in El Salvador, the new ALAS Pro Tour 2022 champion could be mathematically defined.

In the men's open category, Venezuelan José Joaquín López dominates the top of the table with 7,730 pts, however, he is closely followed by Panamanian Tao Rodríguez with 7,720 pts, in third and fourth place are Costa Ricans Óscar Urbina and Darshan Antequera with 7,045 pts and 6,985 pts respectively and Salvadoran Bryan Pérez closes in fifth place with 6,355 pts.

The junior category has been dominated by Peruvians Alejandro Bernales and Manuel Jesús Robles, who with 2,110 pts and 2,075 pts make a difference with Mexican Mateo Cadenas in third place and Costa Ricans Nadav Attar and Tosh Talbot in fourth and fifth place.

The longboard category will also have a major presence in Las Flores, and its waves will determine a new continental champion in its division. American Nelson Ahina leads the rankings with 2,413 points, while second and third place are held by Mexican Luis Fernando Sánchez and Brazilian Antônio Vitor, both with 1,750 points. Fourth and fifth place are mathematically further apart, but both still have a chance, with American Micah Desoto (1,588 points) and Mexican Heriberto Torres (1,505 points) not yet out of the running for the top spot.

In the women's competition, the fight for the top spot is fierce, and although there's one more event in Chile after El Salvador, the numerical gap in first place could be decisive, making the remaining event a mere formality to conclude the season. Ecuador's Dominic Barona currently leads with 4,850 points, widening the gap with Costa Rica's Rubiana Brownell, who sits in second place with 3,204 points. The local competitor from Playa Avellanas will need to perform well in Las Flores and wait to see how Barona fares. Nicaragua's Candelaria Resano, Panama's Samanta Alonso, and Argentina's Lucía Indurain round out the top five, but the numerical gap is much larger, and they would need to perform well in Central America to secure the title in Chile.

The Surf City El Salvador ALAS Pro Tour 2022 will be a six-star event and will take place from November 23 to 26, where Surfing Republica will bring you all the details of what happened in Las Flores.
