Surfing Republica - Leilani McGonagle and Carlos Muñoz will compete in the US Open of Surfing

Get to know the rivals of the Costa Ricans in this important Challenger stop of the World Surf League.

Costa Rican surfers Leilani McGonagle and Carlos Muñoz will compete in the US Open of Surfing, the fourth stop on the 2022 Challenger Tour, in search of accumulating as many points as possible for their respective WSL rankings.

This will be Leilani's fourth Challenger appearance, where in the three previous appearances she has obtained the 17th, 49th and 33rd positions, thus marching in the # 40 place of the ranking.

This will be a new opportunity for McGonagle to climb the ranks in his aspirations for a spot on the CT 2023.

On the other hand, this will be Carlos Muñoz's first Challenger competition since his time on the CT, where he suffered an injury and had to withdraw from the tour. This injury has prevented the Costa Rican from fully returning to competition, however, Muñoz feels recovered for the US Open of Surfing and will begin his climb back towards a spot on the Dream Tour.

This fourth Challenger stop of the World Surf League is expected to kick off on Saturday, July 30th in Huntington Beach, California, and the national team is in the following series:

Round of 96 competitors
