McGonagle is currently ranked #21 with three events remaining. Challenger will need to put in good performances to try and secure a spot in the Top 5 and qualify for the 2023 CT.

After performing excellently at the US Open of Surfing, finishing ninth and earning 3,320 points, Costa Rican Leilani McGonagle climbed 19 positions in the Challenger ranking and now sits at #21 with a total of 6,520 points.

This year, the Costa Rican has achieved a ninth place, a seventeenth place, a thirty-third place, and a forty-ninth place.

Leilani will now have three more opportunities to accumulate valuable Challenger points and try to finish the season in the top 5 of the rankings and thus qualify directly for the CT 2023. The cutoff for fifth place is 17,390 points, which is currently held by Australian Sophie McCulloch.

There will be no Challenger stops next September, as the event in France has been cancelled and competitors will now have to wait until October to maintain their competitive rhythm.
The next Challenger stops are:
- October 1 to 9: EDP Ericeira Pro (Portugal)
- November 1st to 8th: Sacuarema Pro (Brazil)
- November 26 to December 7 (Hawaii)
