Surfing Republica - John John Florence will not attend the Surf City El Salvador Pro due to an injury

Hawaiian suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the seventh CT stop.

Hawaiian surfer John John Florence will miss the Surf City El Salvador Pro 2022 and possibly the competition in Brazil as well. The athlete suffered an injury during the sixth stop at G-Land and underwent tests, which revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Florence will miss the first CT event to be held in a Central American country, specifically in Punta Roca, El Salvador, between June 12 and 20.

The athlete addressed this situation on social media, where he expressed his sadness at not being able to compete in this iconic event.

“Yesterday I learned that the pain I felt at G-Land was due to a torn ACL that occurred during the event. This is difficult news for me to accept and means I have to officially withdraw from the next @wsl event in El Salvador and most likely the event in Brazil as well. This hurts a lot, to be honest, but there will always be unforeseen moments beyond our control; we just have to try to respond in the best way possible. Thank you for the support and messages over the last few days,” John John said.

With the Hawaiian's injury, the possibility opens up for Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz to receive a wildcard as a replacement for the Surf City El Salvador Pro; however, it will depend on the World Surf League (WSL) whether it is awarded to the Costa Rican or to another surfer.
