Experts are urging extreme caution this weekend due to strong waves and intense currents.

Through social media, the lifeguards of the Garabito canton are requesting extreme caution for the Playa Hermosa area this weekend.

Lifeguards have had to intervene on several occasions to safeguard the lives of people who do not heed the warnings that this beach is not suitable for inexperienced swimmers or surfers.
“ We have been emphasizing the importance of safety precautions at Playa Hermosa. As you know, this beach has conditions that make it unsuitable for inexperienced swimmers or surfers. Its large waves, strong currents, irregular topography, and soft sand make it an unfriendly beach for swimmers, so we recommend not entering the water for bathing or swimming.”
Hermosa is one of our most beautiful beaches. As a protected national refuge, it offers an experience sought after by both domestic and international tourists, in addition to its incredible waves that have made it world-renowned. However, our job as lifeguards is prevention. That's why we constantly issue warnings to ensure the message reaches more people: Hermosa Beach is not suitable for swimming.
We also frequently encounter cases where surfers' equipment fails, their leashes break, and they lose their boards. In these situations, there is a significant risk, as swimming back to shore often requires considerable physical and, above all, mental effort. Many surfers, especially those with little experience, can have a very difficult time and even die. For this reason, among other dangers, we recommend not surfing at this beach if you have little experience and always checking your equipment twice before entering the water .
"We hope this message reaches more and more people, and we also want to encourage local surfers and residents to warn people whenever possible and thus prevent emergencies. This helps us all a lot as a community," said Mar Chen, lifeguard at Playa Hermosa.

Playa Hermosa is an ideal spot for experienced surfers due to its conditions; however, the strong currents and powerful waves are very dangerous for inexperienced surfers, and it is even ruled out as a place for swimming.
