The Brazilian triumphed once again in Rio and the Hawaiian managed to be crowned over her closest follower in the ranking.
The eighth stop of the Championship Tour concluded and the waves of Sacuarema, Rio, Brazil left a Brazilian and a Hawaiian as the winners of the event.

In the men's competition, the home advantage was very pronounced, to the point that all four semifinalists were Brazilian surfers. In the grand final, Samuel Pupo and Filipe Toledo put on a spectacular show, ultimately leaving Toledo as the clear winner of the day and solidifying his position as the number one surfer in the rankings.
Also noteworthy on this date was the presence of Peruvian Miguel Tudela, who finished in ninth place in the tournament.
In the women's competition, Hawaiian Carissa Moore started off a bit low in her scores, so much so that she had to seek her qualification through the elimination round. However, she managed to reach the final and overcome her closest rival for the world title, Johanne Defay. The Frenchwoman stayed away from victory in the final, but the last wave obtained by Carissa left the woman born in Le Puy-en-Velay, France, without hope.

Moore's victory widens her lead over second place in the rankings by almost 4,000 points, and Defay's final appearance further distances her from third and fourth place. Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy currently sits in fourth place, tied on points with Stephanie Gilmore; however, Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb climbed three spots in the rankings and is close behind the Costa Rican.
The next stop on the World Tour will visit Jeffreys Bay in South Africa from July 12 to 21 and will be a key date to start defining the surfers who will be in the finals in Lower Trestles, USA in September.
