Surfing Republica - Diego Naranjo is the new coach of the Junior National Surf Team

Jacobeño will face the challenge of placing among the best teams in the World Cup in El Salvador.

After a two-year absence due to the pandemic, surfing for those under 18 years of age returns to a world competition, and our country will be present with a generation that is pushing forward with great talent.

This time, the national team will be under the guidance of the experienced Costa Rican coach with the most World Championship appearances, having led various teams around the globe. We're talking about Diego Naranjo, who will guide these young talents in their quest for a great result on the Salvadoran waves.

Naranjo, who already knows what it's like to be a world champion in a masters category as a coach, having achieved the feat with surfer Magnum Martínez in 2012, will now face the challenge of preparing young Costa Ricans who dream of a coveted world championship medal.

In addition, some other achievements of the man from Jacob are:

- Fourth place for the Venezuelan national team in the 2012 World Masters Championship.
- NSSA regular season champion in 2019 with Ethan Hollander.
- In charge of the Latin America region for Red Bull Surfing.
- Multiple-time national champion with different athletes.
- More than 5 world championships with 4 different countries.

“For me it is a great source of pride. I had the experience of working with four different national teams and financially it was very productive, but my heart was always with the Costa Rican colors and seeing the Costa Ricans advance through the heats is priceless and something I want to feel again, representing the flag of the most beautiful country in the world ,” said Diego Naranjo.

One advantage the new national team coach has is that he has already worked with some promising young Costa Rican players and knows many others who have the ability to represent the country. However, Diego will have to choose a final squad to compete in the World Cup, which will take place from May 27 to June 5.
