The Costa Rican Surf Federation confirmed that they do not have the necessary resources.
This is the press release issued by the Costa Rican Surfing Federation:
“Greetings to all,
As many know, the Federation receives budgets annually from ICODER, which include funds for events scheduled up to a year in advance.
The Pan American Surfing Association (PASA) officially announced the PASA Pan American Games in Panama just 3 months ago (in May 2022), thus leaving it out of the events that were budgeted since 2021.
Therefore, we announce that due to this situation, the Federation will not be able to send a National Team to the PASA 2022 Games.
At the same time, the Federation is opening up the space for those athletes who wish to participate in these PASA Games, from August 7 to 13, in Playa Venao, Panama, to do so by covering their respective expenses.
The categories and available slots for each are:
CATEGORIES AND QUOTAS
• Men's Open – 4 slots
• Women's Open – 4 slots
• Men's Longboard – 2 spots
• Women's Longboard – 2 spots
• SUP Surf (Men's) – 2 spots
• Women's SUP Surf – 2 spots
• SUP Men's Races – 2 slots
• Women's SUP Races – 2 slots
• Technical staff / companions: 4 slots
To select the athletes in the Shortboard categories (Men and Women) the Ranking of the Challenger events will be used, for Longboard the event held in Santa Teresa in June will be used, and the SUP athletes will be at the discretion of the SUP Association.
For athletes wishing to represent the country at this event, the Federation, the Pan American Surfing Association (PASA), and local organizers have secured discounts on lodging, transportation, and airfare for participants. If you wish to travel to Panama, please contact the Federation for information on these discounts.
The Federation continues to work diligently to ensure the participation of National Teams in upcoming international events, despite the economic difficulties our society is facing at this time.”
