Tourism Minister Gustavo Segura announced that this measure will take effect on November 1st.

In a measure taken considering the arrival of the high season, the Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Segura, announced today the opening of air borders to all countries of the world.

Previously, some destinations had been opened, however, as a measure to encourage the majority of tourist visits, this measure was adopted to be applied on the first day of November.

Tourists wishing to visit our country will be required to: present a negative COVID-19 PCR test (72 hours before the trip), have national or international medical insurance and fill out the digital form called “Health Pass”.

“This announcement comes in anticipation of the high season that begins at the end of November and will allow us to increase foreign exchange earnings and jobs. Every tourist who visits the country activates a series of productive chains, including agriculture, fishing, commerce, transportation, tour guides, hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and artisans. The tourism industry is the backbone of the economic reactivation process, enabling the country to gradually recover from the crisis caused by the pandemic. This reopening of the air border has been successful thanks to the collaborative work of the Ministry of Health, Civil Aviation, international airports, Immigration and Foreign Affairs, airlines, and the ICT,” stated the Minister of Tourism.

This decision also brings positive changes to the entry of Costa Rican citizens who were abroad. Those returning to the country with a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before boarding their flight will not be required to quarantine upon arrival in Costa Rica. However, they will be advised to take extra precautions to reduce the risk of infection. This measure will be implemented starting October 19th.
