Surfing República - Corzo, Barona, Cadenas and Sánchez won the FEMEX ALAS PRO 2022


ALAS Pro Tour will travel to El Salvador to determine the champions of open men, junior and longboard.

Johny Corzo from Mexico, Dominic Barona, Mateo Cadenas and Luis Fernando Sánchez are the winners of the Open Men, Open Women, Junior and Longboard categories at the FEMEX ALAS Pro 2022 that took place this weekend on the waves of Playa Linda in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico.


This was the eighth stop of the 2021-2022 season of the ALAS Pro Tour, a continental professional surfing circuit and official qualifying event for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, organized by the Latin American Association of Professional Surfers.
For four days, athletes from 13 countries competed to earn points in the ALAS Pro Tour Ranking, seeking to be crowned champions of the continent and place themselves in the qualifying zone for Santiago 2023.


In the Men's Open final, Jhony Corzo, ISA World Champion, defeated Panamanian Tao Rodríguez, the current ALAS Junior Champion, 14.94 points to 10.20. Corzo reached the final by defeating his compatriot Sebastián Williams 13.9 to 10.16.

Dominic Barona of Ecuador, multiple ALAS champion, defeated Puerto Rican Mia Calderón 16.00 to 12.4 points. Barona reached the final after defeating Catalina Mercere of Argentina 11.83 to 7.00 points.


In the Junior category, Mexican Mateo Cadenas scored a total of 16.20 points to defeat Nadav Attar of Costa Rica, who totaled 12.33 points. In the semifinals, Cadenas defeated another Costa Rican, Axel Castro, with 13.00 points, while Castro scored 10.16 points.

In a final featuring only Mexicans, Luis Fernando Sánchez was the winner of the Longboard category by scoring a total of 14.50 points to beat Heriberto Torres (12.93pts), Tzahui Poo (9.32pts) and Kirra Silver (7.2pts).

The Open Women category will determine the ALAS continental champion in Chile, on December 3 and 4.
