Surfing Republica - Brisa Hennessy se medirá a Lakey Peterson y Gabriela Bryan en la ronda preliminar del Rio Pro

Surfing Republica - Brisa Hennessy will face Lakey Peterson and Gabriela Bryan in the preliminary round of the Rio Pro

It will be the second event for the Costa Rican surfer in the waves of Sacuarema since she started competing in the World Surfing Tour.

Costa Rican surfer Brisa Hennessy, currently ranked in the world's top three, could begin her participation tomorrow in the Rio Pro, the eighth stop on the World Surf League Tour. The Matapalo native is in the first heat of the opening round and will be looking to advance in first place, which would catapult her directly to the quarterfinals of the event.

Brisa has only surfed Sacuarema once before, back in 2019 for that year's Rio Pro, where she finished in seventeenth place. This time, the Costa Rican surfer will face American Lakey Peterson, who has seven appearances in Rio, in the first heat, as well as Hawaiian Gabriela Bryan, who is making her debut at the wave.

Brisa has surfed a total of 22 heats this 2022 season, winning 12 of them. This season has been very successful for the Costa Rican surfer, earning her first CT victory and achieving positive results that have kept her in the top 5 of the rankings and in contention for the WSL world title.

Hennessy suffered a cut on her right foot during her last competition in El Salvador, requiring eight stitches. So far, she has surfed without issue in Brazil and is eagerly awaiting the start of the event.

The Rio Pro has its first call to competition tomorrow at 4:00 am (Costa Rican time), and from there a decision will be made to run the event tomorrow, or wait for better conditions.
