This statement comes in relation to the state of emergency declared by Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, in order to contain the outbreak.

Japan has confirmed more than 6,000 cases of COVID-19 and 94 deaths. However, experts have indicated that the actual number of cases could be much higher due to a lack of testing.
