Surfing Costa Rica - Weston-Webb and Toledo triumph at Margaret River

Brazilian surfers win the fourth date of the world surfing tour.

With swells that provided excellent waves, the fourth date of the world surfing tour was held in the town of Margaret River, Australia.

The Margaret River Pro brought surprises and newcomers to the CT, and despite a slight demonstration of good surfing by the local surfers in the early rounds of the event, they failed to earn praise.

In the women's division, the rightful winner was Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb, who, with a high level of play throughout the event, managed to overcome Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), who, despite eliminating the current world champion Carissa Moore (USA) in the semifinals, could not overcome Weston-Webb.

The women's ranking continues to be led by Carissa, however, the Brazilian added important points and is now in second place, adding spice to the top of the table.

The women had a debutante in this tournament, Willow Hardy (AUS), who at only 14 years of age demonstrated her great skills in a swell for the brave.

Our country has female representation on the tour by Brisa Hennessy, who once again took ninth place in the event.

In the men's competition, the winner was once again Brazilian; however, this time it wasn't Medina or Ferreira, but Filipe Toledo, who managed to overcome an inspired Jordy Smith (ZAF) who couldn't find his best waves in the final. Thus, the ranking continues to show Brazilian dominance in the top three positions.

Unfortunately for the spectacle of the event, due to the high level shown up to the moment of his injury, the Hawaii native surfer, John John Florence, presented a physical discomfort in the round of 16, which prevented him from participating in the last rounds of the event and also in the next stop.

The pleasant surprise for the spectators came from Ryan Callinan (AUS) and Matthew McGillivray (ZAF), who despite not being so frequent in CT final rounds, managed to reach the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively, of this stop in western Australia.

The world tour will continue in Australia and on this fifth date the waves of Rottnest Island will challenge the best surfers between May 16 and 26.
