Surfing Costa Rica - US Open of Surfing is cancelled for 2020

The event organizers have announced the cancellation of the US Open of Surfing due to the current pandemic situation.

Today, the organizers of one of the most high-profile and well-attended events have announced its cancellation for 2020. The decision is due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis affecting the entire world.




The tournament schedule was set to take place from the 1st The competition was scheduled to take place on August 9th in front of the iconic Huntington Beach pier; however, historically, it will be necessary to wait until 2021 to see the competition again.



“The US Open of Surfing has always been about bringing people together in a healthy, fun, and interactive environment, and given the size and scale of the event, we can’t see a way to do it this year without sacrificing what makes it so special. While we are disappointed, the health and safety of our attendees, athletes, staff, and the local community will always be our top priority.”

The US Open of Surfing joins the list of events canceled due to the coronavirus, a situation that places great uncertainty for thousands of athletes around the world.
