Surfing Costa Rica - Tyler Wright triumphs in Australia and leaves a message of solidarity

Australian surfers won the first stop of the Australian Grand Slam.

After facing an absence from ocean surfing tournaments due to the Covid-19 pandemic, World Surf League (WSL) surfing returned to the Australian island last weekend.

The return of surf competitions in natural conditions and not in a wave pool, as a special event had been held months before at the Surf Ranch, took place with the Tweed Coast Pro 2020, where Australian surfers Tyler Wright and Ethan Ewing conquered the honors.

The competition proceeded normally, with one of the most striking facts being Tyler Wright's return to the podium in a special WSL event, after having been absent from competitions for a period of time due to a particular flu and post-viral syndrome.

In addition to her victory, Wright showed her solidarity with people who suffer racism or inequality both on the Australian island and around the world. The Culburra Beach native remained on her knees for 439 seconds, one second for each First Nations person in Australia who has died in police custody since 1991.

Another noteworthy fact was the level shown by the male winner, Ethan Edwin, a 22-year-old Australian who is already on the CT and showed that his performance is at its peak for the return of the Tour of Champions competitions.

The Australian Grand Slam will continue its next stop in Margaret River, before visiting South Stradbroke Island on the Gold Coast.
