Surfing Costa Rica - Surfboard made in Costa Rica with recycled material seeks to win international competition

The Tascon Brothers need our help to win an international competition that rewards creations that turn discarded materials into a product of everyday necessity.

A project that was born from the initiative of a friend of the Tascon brothers, with the aim of collaborating with the environment by using discarded materials in order to produce a surfboard that will function like a normally manufactured one.

Anderson and Jefferson Tascon are Colombian surfers and shapers who have lived in Costa Rica for 18 years and have always been known for their kind hearts and environmental awareness. The brothers already had some experience creating surfboards from recycled materials, thanks to their involvement in the “Jaco Impact” project.

Anderson and Jefferson, along with their friend Alex Rocha, who came up with the idea, have advanced to the grand final of the “Creators & Innovators Upcycle Contest 2020” and now need our help to become the grand winners of an event that rewards artists from all over the world who have turned “waste into necessities”.

The shapers have worked hard to build something from scratch to be considered in this competition, and their work will be evaluated based on innovation, functionality, creativity, design, and aesthetics.

“Our friend Alex Rocha asked us to make a board out of recycled materials, so we set about creating it. He then suggested we submit our creation to this event, and we entered the first casting call, where we made it to the finals. We are thrilled to be there, and there are very few Latin Americans participating, as we are competing against people from Japan, the United States, and France. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has believed in and supported this project, and we hope that support continues so we can win one of the top three spots. The organizing brand hasn't announced the prizes yet, but for us, the most important thing is to spread the message of recycling. If we win, what we would gain more than anything else is that our message, through our example, will spread throughout the world,” said Jefferson Tascon.

Online voting began today and will continue until 11:59 PM on October 16th. You can support the Tascon brothers in this great environmental initiative by visiting the following link: http://upcyclevote.vissla.com
