Surfing Costa Rica - Surfers returned to the water this Monday

Sports activities took over Costa Rican beaches this morning.

After almost two months of closure, the beaches of our beautiful Costa Rica were reopened today from 5:00 am to 8:00 am.

“The waves were great, we had a wonderful time in nature, and we are very grateful to the Ministry of Health for opening the beaches for us for a few hours. We all enjoyed catching our waves, many got some great barrels, and that's what it's all about: connecting with nature. It's very mentally uplifting, and we're very happy with this first day. We all left at the designated time, which was before 8:00 am, and we followed the rules. We hope the other days will be the same, and I think the number of people might decrease since today was the first day after so long, and many people wanted to surf, but as the days go by, the number of people could decrease,” said Carlos “Cali” Muñoz after his session.

The main activity that took place in different areas of the Costa Rican coasts was water sports, including surfing.

Surfers took advantage of the opening to enjoy the waves on a day filled with joy and satisfaction from practicing the sport they love most.

“I’m very happy to be able to enjoy the sport we love again. Regardless of the surfer’s level, for us the sea represents health, sport, and happiness. I’m happy to be back; I feel good physically. I’ve been training, but of course, you feel the effects of being in the water. But hopefully, as the days go by, you’ll feel like yourself again. Regarding the amount of time we have to surf, I think we can’t complain. It’s a full surf session, and social distancing is being observed, as are the other measures,”
said Maykol Torres as he came out of the water.

A large number of people attended on the central Pacific coast, but respecting the safety protocols, the first day of the authorization was a great success.

“I’m very happy to be back in the water after so long. At first it was difficult, but as the session went on I was able to connect with several good waves. There were quite a few people in the water, but everyone was following the measures so we could continue surfing,” commented Alberto “Beto” Muñoz.

The morning schedule imposed by the Ministry of Health will remain in place until June 1st, the day on which new guidelines will be announced and the schedule could be extended.
