Maya Gabeira surfed a 73.5-foot wave in Nazaré, Portugal.

Brazilian surfer Maya Gabeira broke her own Guinness World Record after surfing a 73.5-foot (22.4-meter) wave. The wave that the Rio native surfed occurred on February 11, 2020, at the opening event of the WSL Nazare Tow Surfing Challenge in Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal.
With this wave, Maya won the cbdMD XXL Biggest Wave Award from the World Surf League (WSL).

“This wave was during the Nazaré event and I’m not a competitive person, but that day I was in my element and braver than I usually am on a day like that,” the Brazilian stated.
The University of Southern California, WaveCo, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography were in charge of taking the wave measurements. They took video and photographic evidence and applied scientific calculations based on real-world coordinates and reference points such as the surfer's height and the length of the board.
