Local from Playa Pavones dreams of one day representing our country.

A boy native to the Costa Rican South Pacific, specifically from the beautiful Pavones beach, a talented young man who was trained thanks to the efforts of the McGonagle brothers to encourage surfing in the children of the community, dreams of one day representing Costa Rica abroad.
It was seven years ago when Luis Ángel, motivated by the McGonagle brothers, decided to try a new discipline: surfing. This boy did not think about the impact that the board sport would have on him and that to this day, it has given him great moments of inspiration and discipline.
Luis Ángel Rangel aims to join the National Surf Circuit, however, he is aware that living in an area so far from where these events take place has always been a limitation.
In this article we talk more with this young man from the Costa Rican South Pacific and share the entire interview with you.
How long have you lived in Pavones and how old are you?
I am 17 years old and I have lived here for the same number of years.

How did you get started in the world of surfing?
I was very inspired watching Noe Mar and Leilani surf here in Pavones and from there I decided that I wanted to start surfing and that surfing would be my sport.
How long have you been competing, and where did the idea to compete come from?
I started competing 10 years ago when I tried out in a McGonagle Brothers tournament, then I competed in ACOS events.
What is life like for a surfer boy in Playa Pavones?
Life for a surfer in Pavones is honestly very tough, since we don't have the same facilities as in other places, and resources aren't the same. Sometimes if our board gets damaged, we have to wait to have the money to repair it, and maybe the wave was really good, but by the time it's fixed, the swell has passed. Generally speaking, it's a bit complicated, but Pavones has an incredible wave, perhaps one of the best in the world.
What are your dreams as a surfer?
My dream is to be able to represent Costa Rica and compete next year in the National Surf Circuit.
Who is your favorite surfer, both nationally and internationally?
At a national level I greatly admire Leilani McGonagle and Noe Mar for everything they have achieved, and at an international level I admire Ítalo Ferreira.
What table measures are you currently using?
I am currently surfing with a 5'11, 18.43, 2.2 5 board.

What do you love most about surfing?
What I love most about surfing is being able to enjoy it with my friends in tournaments and surf different "spots", as well as surfing good and large waves.
