Talent from Limón shines in its category at the national level.

A rising star in Caribbean surfing, the son of wave-loving parents, a native of Costa Rica's Southern Caribbean coast, specifically Puerto Viejo. We're talking about Koa Brayant Camero, who at just eight years old enjoys the waves and the ocean with his father.
Koa already knows what it's like to compete and win on dates of the National Surf Circuit and with great talent has shown that he is destined for great things in surfing.

We share with this beautiful family from Limón and in this article we give you the whole story of this boy in surfing.
How did Koa get started in the sport of surfing and at what age did it all begin?
Thanks to my mom bodyboarding and my dad surfing, I've loved the ocean and surfing since I was born. They tell me they put me on a board when I was three months old, but it wasn't until after I started walking that I began standing up and catching waves in the whitewater. I'd say I started surfing around a year and a half old. Now I'm eight, and for as long as I can remember, I've been in the ocean.
Where did the idea of competing in the National Surf Circuit come from?
The idea of competing in the circuit stems from my desire to surf different waves and improve my surfing every day. Then, like magic, the Caribe Surf Team appeared, supporting grommets and mini grommets. It was the perfect combination to be able to go to my first event in 2020 in Dominical, where I surprisingly became champion. I couldn't believe it; that was the biggest impetus to want to continue.

What table measurements do you use?
My measurements are usually 4.7 and 4.9.
Had you had any other competitive experience before the National Circuit?
Yes, I had already competed in several local events in Puerto Viejo, the Puerto Viejo Open Pro, which has launched the careers of many Caribbean athletes. I also competed in an event focused on younger children called King of the Surycats, and in one of them, at the age of five, I managed to come in first place, which thrilled me and motivated me a lot to keep training. But I had never competed outside of Puerto Viejo until this year.

What do you love most about surfing?
It would be the practice of surfing itself, the excitement I feel every time I catch a wave and do a good maneuver, I love it and it makes me want to catch another one, also another thing that I am passionate about is being able to share with my friends at sea.
Do you have any idols or people you admire, both nationally and internationally?
Yes, many, at the national level Óscar Urbina, Antony Fillingim, Carlos Muñoz, Gilbert Brown and Noe Mar MacGonagle.
Internationally, Gabriel Medina, Jhon Jhon Flores, Kelly Slater and my favorite is Jackson Dorian.
What are your short and medium-term goals related to surfing?
I plan to compete in all the dates of the National Surf Circuit, however, we'll have to wait and see what happens with the current situation in the country and the competitions. Another goal is to be among the best surfers of my generation and to find sponsors who can help me achieve my dreams in surfing.

What is Koa's dream for the future in surfing?
To be a world champion and then have a surf school to teach other children.

What activities have you had to do during this time that you couldn't surf?
Well, apart from many tasks, I've been skating in the streets doing surf skateboarding, a little yoga and functional training.
