The oldest surf magazine on the planet has ceased operations

After 60 years of operation helping to professionally legitimize surfing, when there was no internet and social media were unknown, the renowned Surfer Magazine suspended its operations this month.
The digital age, the death of paper, coupled with the current situation caused by COVID-19 and a possible disagreement over a post supporting Biden's candidacy against Trump, could be the obstacles to continuing with the oldest surf magazine on the planet still operating in 2020.

The magazine had been weakened since the previous year, when half of the staff had to be laid off, since The Enthust Network (TEN) group sold the franchise to the powerful New York company American Media and a corporate restructuring was agreed between the parties.
John Severson, a surf enthusiast, photographer, and teacher, founded Surfer Magazine 60 years ago, at a time when quality work was essential to ensure consistent readership. Today, the internet and various social media platforms enable effective digital marketing, which, when done well, undoubtedly generates a greater number of clients.

Surfing in recent years has undergone moments of change, where lovers of the sport and of expression on paper mourn another great loss.
