Surfing Costa Rica - Beaches will be open without time restrictions until 6:00 pm

Athletes will be able to enjoy the waves on national beaches for longer starting tomorrow.

Local coastal governments achieved their goal in the meeting they held this afternoon with representatives of the central government.

At the meeting it was agreed that the beaches will close at 6 pm starting this Wednesday, January 13, and not until 2:30 pm as initially determined at the beginning of the year.

The measure will be in place until the 31st of this month, at which point it will be reviewed to determine whether it will be extended.

This afternoon's meeting came after pressure built last week when the municipal councils of Garabito and Quepos approved closing their beaches until 6:30 p.m. starting last Saturday.

They finally abandoned the measure due to the offer of dialogue proposed by the central government for this Tuesday.

The mayors argued that extending the hours during which the sea could be enjoyed discouraged tourists from arriving in the early afternoon and hindered the reactivation and job creation plan considered for the dry season.
