The initiative will increase health safety for visitors to the canton's beaches.

In an initiative by the Municipality of Garabito with its mayor Tobías Murillo, 11 signs were installed with the protocols issued by the Ministry of Health and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute for health care in order to prevent the spread of covid 19.

In addition, 23 handwashing stations and showers will be installed in strategic locations for the safety and comfort of visitors. The municipality has emphasized its continued adherence to health protocols and has taken precautionary measures prior to the installation of the signs.

“We must respect health protocols, social distancing and other guidelines to make the beaches of the Garabito canton safer to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Gilberth Delgado, in charge of maintenance and cleaning of Playa Herradura.

This idea is intended to encourage responsible tourism in the canton by the Central Pacific Chamber of Tourism and Sustainable Commerce, in beaches and busy places in the canton such as Jacó Beach, Mantas Beach, Herradura Beach, Tárcoles and Quebrada Ganado.

“It’s a great idea from the municipality; this will help visitors feel more at ease and allow us to gradually reactivate tourism in the area, which has been so severely affected,” said José Barrantes, a merchant in the Playa Jacó area.

It is worth noting that the information on the protocols on the signs is available in three languages ​​for the convenience of tourists, and regarding the handwashing stations, these are expected to be installed as soon as possible so that these health measures can be in place before the end of the year and the high season in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica.
