Surfing Costa Rica - Municipality of Garabito must maintain the beach closing time until 2:30 pm

The beaches in the canton of Garabito will have the same schedule as the other beaches in the rest of the country, at least until next Tuesday.

The Municipality of Garabito must adhere to the beach closing time restriction, as a measure implemented by the Government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Last night, the Municipality issued a statement indicating it would not respect this restriction and would close at 6:00 pm. However, Pedro González, Vice Minister of Health, and Patricio Morera, President of the Institute for Municipal Development and Advisory Services, contacted Mayor Tobías Murillo to request that he maintain the established hours until Tuesday of next week, when a meeting will be held with the mayors of the coastal communities to reach a solution.

"We are giving a grace period at the request of the Executive Branch until Tuesday. We have not backed down from our decision, we only suspended it to await the outcome of the meeting based on our concern about the economic reactivation of the canton," clarified the mayor, Tobías Murillo.

Currently, the appeal for protection filed by lawyer Walter Brenes before the Constitutional Chamber is being processed, in which it is requested that the beaches should not have any restrictive hours.
