Surfing Costa Rica - Women to challenge big wave event
Compartir

The women-only big wave competition takes place from December 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021.

An innovative event that puts the power of female surfing at the top, as the girls will have their chance to shine in a big wave competition.
The competition will be held virtually due to the current situation; however, the girls must surf waves larger than seven meters, and these waves must be those of Waimea Bay, Jaws, and Phantoms.

The tournament will crown the best big wave surfers of the 2020-2021 Hawaiian winter season. Registered competitors can compile their videos and submit them to the designated locations from December 1st to February 28th, and $40,000 in prizes will be awarded.

Some of the world-renowned athletes already registered are Justine Dupont and Keala Kennelly, as well as great local runners like Skylar Lickle, Moana Jones, and Brittany Gomulka.
The judges who will determine the winners are: Rochelle Ballard, Championship Tour surfer and three-time winner of the Surfer Poll, Betty DePolito, the first woman to surf Pipeline, Kai Lenny and Mark Healey.
These experts on size waves will be meeting from March 1st to 15th, 2021, to select the winners in each category. Additionally, the People's Choice award will be open to the public during this period.
All awards will be announced on March 16, 2021.
