Surfing Costa Rica - The new device that allows you to detect sharks while surfing

The company behind the product hopes to contribute to a decrease in shark attacks on surfers around the world.

An idea born with the aim of significantly reducing the number of shark attacks on surfers around the world is how a company based in Germany created a device for detecting sharks at a range of 40 meters.

This practical and novel invention works by means of a sonar that, upon detecting a specimen, sends a strong vibration so that the user can move away from the place without worry.

The device attaches to the foot, in the same way as a leash, and works within a 120-degree range depending on the ankle movement, serving both surfers and swimmers or practitioners of other sports disciplines.

The invention's radar, which causes no harm to the animal, performs a very specific function: distinguishing between a shark and any other marine animal, thus significantly reducing the risk of being attacked.

Last year there were several shark attacks around the world, where in most cases without provocation, they happen due to confusion with other species that are part of their food chain.

The invention is the result of years of research, with the aim of not harming the animal or its environment. On the contrary, it is made entirely from recycled plastic and can be submerged to a depth of 50 meters in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.
