WTM Responsible Tourism Awards Latin America awarded this prize to our country above countries like Brazil and Uruguay.

Costa Rica won the award for best responsible tourism destination. The virtual ceremony was held in São Paulo, Brazil, by the WTM Responsible Tourism Awards Latin America.

Our country received this award in recognition of the sustainable tourism model that has been developed for more than 20 years by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), supported by the private sector, and for developing a differentiated tourism approach that appeals to social inclusion, the preservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The model focused on promoting sustainability and thus providing travelers with very positive experiences was highlighted.

Four categories were awarded:

- Best destination for responsible tourism

- Better in poverty reduction and inclusion

- Better contribution to wildlife preservation

- Best cultural heritage attraction

 

There were a total of 53 proposals from across the continent, however, only 13 finalists, including our country, winning the award in the Best Destination for Responsible Tourism category.

Our country has always sought ways to stand out with sustainable development models in the tourism sector, and on this occasion, the country's efforts were recognized.
