Surfing Costa Rica - Costa Rica announces the opening of borders for some flights from the United States

The Costa Rican government announced new measures for flights from the United States on Wednesday.

The Costa Rican government announced today, Wednesday, that starting September 1st, it will allow six weekly flights from the United States, as part of a plan to reactivate the tourism sector in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism Minister Gustavo Segura announced that flights will initially be from specific origins, which are: New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Connecticut.

It is very important to clarify that American visitors must be residents of these places and must prove it through their driver's license.

The distribution of the six weekly flights that our country will receive will be done at the Juan Santamaría airport in Alajuela with four permitted flights and the Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia, Guanacaste with two flights.

"We are taking very gradual and carefully analyzed steps towards revitalizing the tourism industry and protecting the social progress of the country's communities," said the Minister of Tourism.

Since August 1, our country has been receiving tourists from 44 nationalities, including those from the Schengen area, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Uruguay, Thailand and New Zealand.

Tourists wishing to visit our country must meet a series of requirements, which are:

- Have health insurance that covers the expenses generated by a possible infection.

- Have taken a COVID-19 test with a negative result no more than 48 hours before boarding the plane.

The selected countries are based on a study conducted in relation to the positive progress these places have made with the coronavirus.
