Would you dare to surf these waves around the world?
Many of us have dreamed of traveling the world surfing waves and visiting magical places, but what if those visits were to some of the most extreme waves due to their natural power? Some might think twice before even trying.
The waves are yet another example of the power of Mother Nature and on many occasions we have unforgettable sessions, however, daring to surf in some "spots" is a crazy idea.
In this article we will travel around the planet to show you the ten most extreme spots for surfing.
The list is not in order of risk, but what is certain is that you wouldn't want to have a wipeout here:
1- Cyclops: Located off the south coast of Western Australia near Esperanza, this is a rarely surfed wave, and its waves demonstrate why. Accessible only by boat, it may have the thickest lip in the world and forms in multiple layers. This contributes to its extra difficulty to ride, and the coral reef bottom can be deadly when the wave is large.

2- The Right: Considered by many to be the most extreme wave in the world, it is hundreds of miles offshore from the southern tip of Western Australia. Its waves are truly like something out of science fiction, but as if that weren't enough, it is inhabited by enormous great white sharks.

3- Shipstern Bluff: It is a difficult-to-access wave, located in Tasmania, it can only be reached by boat or on foot, it is a wave that forms in front of a coral and is considered one of the most extreme waves to perform a “drop”.

4- Mullaghmore:Â It is a wave located in the north of Ireland, it breaks with great force on the coast and can reach unimaginable sizes; it is one of the most powerful and difficult waves in all of Europe.

5- Cortes Bank: It is a "spot" located one hundred miles off the Californian coast. It is a place that, due to its location, few would think that a wave of this caliber exists, but its power and size would scare anyone. Its extreme formation is due to being an underwater island.

6- Dungeons: Located on the coast of South Africa, this cold wave is a dangerous wave in itself, but as if this were not enough, it is a territory full of enormous great white sharks. It is a wave that requires a size of 4 to 5 feet to be able to work, but if it is also hit by a northwest wind, it forms waves that could easily fit a whole bus.
7- Nazaré: Popularized for its size and location, which makes its wave one of the most powerful for surfing, it is located on the north beach in the municipality of Nazaré, Portugal. Its formation is due to a canyon in an underwater valley that acts like a funnel, creating these mountains of water that crash against the coast with incredible force. It is a popular wave for big wave tournaments.

8- Mavericks: Half Moon Bay, California, is home to one of the best quality big waves to surf, and despite its imposing size, many surfers dare to challenge its waves, which require knowing how to do the "drop" to avoid falling, as it comes from a reef bottom with sharp rocks that has already claimed human lives.
9- Belharra: This wave doesn't always form and can go years without appearing, as it requires a specific swell. However, when everything aligns, you really need courage to challenge its power. It's located off the coast of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, between the Basque Country and France. It requires a swell size of over 12 feet and can withstand waves of unimaginable dimensions crashing against a rocky bottom.

10- Teahupoo: This wave can be surfed in various sizes, but when it's hit by a specific swell, few dare to challenge it. Located in French Polynesia, specifically in Tahiti, it's considered one of the most famous waves for the world's surfing elite. It features a reef that rises to a depth of only two meters, causing the wave to break in its distinctive tubular shape.

There is no doubt that courage and a certain degree of madness are necessary to surf these magical places on the planet, however, few surfers can say that they have dared to surf all these extreme breaks.
