Surfing Costa Rica - Circuito latinoamericano de ola grande podría ser una realidad muy pronto

Surfing Costa Rica - The Latin American Big Wave Circuit could soon become a reality

Ramon Navarro and Gabriel Villarán want to promote a tour that many throughout Latin America dream of.

Yesterday, during a gala announcing the big wave surfing awards from around the world, in the middle of a conversation between Latin athletes, Ramón Navarro's desire to create a Latin American Big Wave Surfing Circuit was revealed.

The comment was made by Peruvian surfer Gabriel Villarán, who has become popular for surfing waves in extreme conditions and being part of the World Surf League (WSL) big wave world tour.

Villarán mentioned that he was in talks with the Chilean Navarro to promote a series of events for big waves in Latin America and thus give more strength to the modality.

In Costa Rica there is already a big wave event, and we have very talented athletes in this category; however, at the Latin American level, the absence of this type of circuit would give a great boost to the discipline.

Costa Rican surfer Gilbert Brown is one of the Costa Rican athletes who has demonstrated throughout his history as a surfer his passion for these types of conditions and mentioned the following upon hearing the news;

"This is a very positive thing for surfers of this type of swell. I hope the new generations will be able to become part of this circuit and thus promote the sport in Latin America."

Another Latin American athlete who spoke about this idea was the two-time world champion of the International Surfing Association (ISA), Leandro Usuna, who referred to the lack of a circuit of this kind in different waves throughout Latin America.

Currently, discussions are underway and we will have to wait a while as the pandemic situation improves; however, there is no doubt that a Latin American Big Wave Tour is getting closer.
