In a gesture of social awareness seeking to help children in the Garabito canton who cannot carry out their activities with friends as they normally do due to the times we live in, the idea was born on the part of the Stand Up Paddle Association, to give an unforgettable day to the children of the region.
The unforgettable day will take place in the MĂstico beach community on Sunday, October 4th at 6:00 am and will have different activities, such as a class on precautionary measures for accidents in the water, taught by the head lifeguard of JacĂł beach, Mr. Mar Chen, there will also be a snack and of course a Stand Up Paddle class with the professional competitor and accredited instructor Jefferson Tascon.
“This activity is very important to encourage discipline, which has many health benefits. It is also very important to help children with emotional support and healthy, safe distractions,” the instructor said.
The president of the Stand Up Paddle Association, Sebastian Fumero, gave us more information about the activity and here is the interview.
Where did the idea for this activity come from?
We are going through a very difficult global crisis with everything related to COVID-19, and one of the pillars of the Association is social assistance. We began to generate ideas to give back to our community in the canton of Garabito during this difficult time, and we managed to create this beautiful project.
How will the children be selected for the activity?
The children are 5 girls and 5 boys (to maintain gender equality) selected by representatives of the Association who know the community very well and in coordination with the cantonal committee.
Who will give the lessons and where?
The lessons will be taught by: Jefferson Tascon (accredited professional, competitor, national team member and member of the Association) for STand Up Paddle and Mar Chen, head lifeguard of Playa JacĂł (accredited professional and member of the Association), for water safety.
What activities will they do on this day, besides rowing?
We will meet with protocol measures in JacĂł, each child will receive from their sponsor a kit that includes a mask, hand sanitizer, a t-shirt with UV protection and will be transported to the event location in a bubble, at the location they will receive a water safety class, a snack, a Stand Up Paddle class and then to finish lunch at a restaurant in the area and the delivery of a small diary to take home.
Any message as president of the Association to encourage more children to join this wonderful activity?
We are open to all those who want to safely practice the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. We are on social media as ASUP Costa Rica; just let us know your interest and we will consider you for future activities.
