The mayor of the province of Limón referred to the people who were in crowds as "irresponsible" and "unconscious".

For an entire month, the mayor of Limón, Néstor Mattis, announced that he will close beaches and parks in the central canton , due to the disobedience of hundreds of people who crowded the area's beaches the previous weekend.

Mattis, in a press conference this Wednesday, indicated that the decision was made due to the incident that occurred over the weekend and the change in alert level for the central canton of that province, which went from yellow to orange.

"Our response team is undermined by staff infections, traffic officials, and a sustained increase in infections."

"We warned that the opening was in danger due to irresponsible behavior that is occurring in Limón," Mattis said.

Regarding the crowds from the previous weekend, Health Minister Daniel Salas expressed his displeasure at a press conference this past Monday.

" This brings me to the example that happened in Limón this weekend , with the images showing crowds of people, and I don't want to judge anyone, but when you see those scenarios..."

They cannot hide behind the excuse that they have few cases ; that is how epidemics begin, by massively breaking social bubbles.

"The situation could become more complicated for the people who were there and for people from other provinces who had contact with them," Salas said.

The Mayor indicated that a lockdown will also be implemented in areas where non-compliance with measures is reported.
