National surfer is surprised and happy to see himself featured in Surfer magazine.
A few days ago, Costa Rican surfer Alberto Muñoz was pleasantly surprised after seeing a photo of himself in one of the world's most important surfing publications.
Carlos “Cali” Muñoz’s younger brother didn’t think about being featured in Surfer Magazine, not because he lacked the skills—he certainly had talent—but because on the day the photos were taken, he simply accompanied “Cali” as usual and they went into the water together.

Alberto shared with us a little of what he felt about his appearance in the digital media and here is the interview.
How did everything come together so that a photographer could take this photo and have it published in Surfer?
The photographers from Volcom and a photographer from Surfer came. They came to film my brother, and I was always with him.
Did the magazine contact you before the photo shoot?
Actually, no, it was kind of a surprise. I realized it when it was already in the magazine on the double page spread.

Did you receive any financial benefit from the image?
None, just advertising.
Where was the photo taken and by whom?
This photo was taken on Uvita Island, Limón, and the photographer's name is Ryan Craig.

What did you think when you saw the photo ?
I was quite impressed when I saw her, because I knew she had... sent out on a wave and was very anxious to see the sequence, because the photographers were very excited about the wave.
What day was the photo taken and how long did it take you to see the photo and that it would be published in Surfer?
That photo is quite old, about 5 years old. It was taken around the same time as the film "Psychics Migration" by Volcom, which was also nominated for one of the best photos of 2015. I saw it the following year when I traveled to California and was shown it for the first time in a magazine, but I saw the photo and the sequence a few days after they left, after everything had happened.

Describe to us how you spent that whole day in Uvita that led to the photo being taken?
I remember that day very well, it was raining a lot, we were already tired, we were coming After checking out the waves at Los Tumbos, they filmed there with Balam and Carlos. Then we headed to a well-known local man called "Teca," grabbed the boats, arrived at the spot, and everything was perfect. The barrels kept spitting out; it looked like an incredible green gem. Because for a moment the sun came out with a rainbow and it was incredible. “Cali” told me I couldn't stay on the boat, that this was my chance to make it big. I remember he told me like this: “Come on Betún, this is the last session, a couple of waves and we're leaving. Look at those photographers, you can make it big.” And that's what happened . I got some good waves with solid barrels and this one that I couldn't get out of, but it was good for the photo.

What did “Cali” say when she saw the photo published in Surfer?
Cali had already seen the photo first and told me, "I told you that you would win."
