The Brazilian will retire from professional competitions after 2021.

Brazilian surfer and 2015 world champion Adriano de Souza announced that after 15 seasons on the top surfing circuit he will be retiring after 2021.

Adriano stated on his social media and in a digital interview that he is thinking of retiring because his inspiration is not the same and that this attitude is not that of a champion.

“I want to thank everyone for the wonderful support throughout my journey so far.
Fans, friends and family, see you in 2021 to celebrate my last year competing on the World Surf League circuit,” the Brazilian stated on his official Instagram page.

However, Adriano emphasizes that he will give his all in his final year at the CT and that afterwards he will dedicate time to his family and friends, with whom he hopes to take some trips and participate with them in local tournaments in his native Brazil.

At 33 years old, Adriano is a top athlete from the Brazilian school of surfing, who, along with Gabriel Medina, Filipe Toledo, Ítalo Ferreira and a few others, have changed the way professional surfing is viewed in Brazil.
