Historic! Costa Rica officially declares its National Surfing Day

The President of the Republic signed a decree declaring National Surfing Day and the practice of this sport of public interest.
This morning at Playa Hermosa in Jacó, the President of the Republic, Mr. Carlos Alvarado, officially signed the Law that establishes the National Surf Day as well as the practice of this sport of public interest.
“I am very happy; surfing gives so much to the country, to tourism, to sports. It is time to recognize how important surfing is to Costa Rica, and that is what we are doing with the signing of this law and by acknowledging the economic, social, and well-being impact that this sport has on the country,” stated President Carlos Alvarado.
The event was held amidst a large presence of national press, athletes from this sport, as well as members of the highest governing body of surfing in Costa Rica.
The presence of the President of the Republic, along with the Ministers of Tourism, Environment and Sport, graces a discipline that has given the country great achievements and economic and tourism boost.
