Monster Energy Drink presents the note of the day.
Young Costa Rican surfing prospect shines abroad.
A boy of only 12 years of age, originally from the Dominical area of Costa Rica, son of a Costa Rican mother and an American father, began his journey through surfing several years ago and by competing in local events he showed his level to be encouraged to run the National Surf Circuit in the Mini Grommets category four years ago and little by little he has been advancing in the different categories of the same.
Last year Hollander raced in several national categories where he won several finals in three different categories to close the year with a second place national in the Grommets category and a first place in the Mini Grommets branch.
Ethan, accompanied by his parents and his coach Diego Naranjo, decided that the boy would simultaneously compete in the popular NSSA student events in the United States, where he has achieved numerous victories in the Under 12 category, making him the Costa Rican surfer with the most podium finishes at the international level, which we list below:
-On September 8th, he won his first event of the 2019/2020 season with a score of 12.76 points.
-On September 14th, he won another event with 15.17 points.
-On September 15th, he reached another final, this time finishing in second place with 12.17 points.
-On November 23rd he reached another final this time finishing in third place with 9.34 points.
-On November 24th he reached his fifth final of the season, also winning it with 15.63 points.
The national team needs to compete in one more event to qualify for the California state regional finals and, in turn, to compete in national events, which are considered one of the most important amateur events in the United States, where only the best boys and girls from the West Coast compete.
This young man from the South Pacific of our country and his father Daveed Hollander shared with us a little about this formative process for the Costa Rican surfer, and we share the interview with you.
What explains Ethan's performance?
Daveed: Ethan's good performance is mainly due to his passion for this sport, the same passion that gives him the desire to train with discipline and dedication the workouts created by his coach Diego Naranjo.
Ethan: Without a doubt, it is because of my love and passion for surfing that I am motivated to train with discipline and dedication, following the training programs created by my coach Diego Naranjo.
How do you manage to compete on two circuits simultaneously?
Daveed: Competing on two parallel circuits is quite difficult and exhausting not only for Ethan but for the whole family, but we understand that this is the only way to improve Ethan's level.
Ethan: It's quite difficult and exhausting, but thank God, my parents, and my sponsors, I have the means to achieve it, and because I also understand that it's the only way to improve my level as a professional surfer.
What is the key to success?
Daveed: The key to success, honestly, is the discipline instilled in my son by his coach.
Ethan: The key to success is discipline, a good attitude, and constant training.
