Surf tournament in Los Cedros brings together local families from Montezuma, Santa Teresa and Mal País.

The ninth edition of the Los Cedros surf tournament in Montezuma took place in a family atmosphere and in support of peace and non-violence in coastal areas.

The Local Surf Tournament was born in 2006 thanks to the family of the Hotel Luna Llena (Loohss Anz family), who believed in a project that would bring together the public to watch local surfing through healthy competition and spend time as a family.

When the event started, there were four categories to compete in, until this ninth edition where nine divisions were run to give a greater number of athletes an opportunity.

"This year we held the ninth edition promoting peace and non-violence in coastal areas. We want to change the expectations of some people who think life on the coast is easy, because it isn't. We work hard, we struggle, and we need the sea to live. Theft and other illegal activities shouldn't be happening in coastal areas, and this year we tried to encourage and motivate that. We also planted 250 trees to try to reforest our coasts," stated Aarón Henkel, a member of the event's organizing staff.

The event hopes to continue growing and to have a greater influx of both competitors and spectators next year.
