Guanacastecan faces quarantine with the motivation that everything will pass soon.
With great hope and motivation that this whole emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic will soon end, Malakai Martínez from Guanacaste is facing the quarantine.

The Tamarindo venue had planned to hold several QS dates, however, due to the global crisis, it only managed to secure one event in the United States.
Martínez is eagerly awaiting his return to the water, as he hasn't been able to practice his passion, surfing, for about two weeks. However, he is strictly following the authorities' instructions to avoid the beach and stay home as much as possible, avoiding crowds.
Malakai shared with us a bit about how he has experienced quarantine, and here is the interview.
What would be your opinion about the situation that COVID-19 has put us through?
These things happen in life, but we will overcome it like other illnesses we have already overcome. There are families who, depending on how long it lasts, will not be able to cover all the expenses, and I hope that the country can help those most affected by the situation. Personally, I wish the best for the country and I know that we will get through this by obeying the rules dictated by the authorities.

What activities have you been able to resume as a family due to the quarantine?
I'm staying home, relaxing with my dad and younger brother. I haven't been able to surf since I got back from the States, but I've been trying to skate in different private spots, and we're building a private skate park here at home so we can use it and exercise. We have been spending a lot of time together as a family.

What activities have you done during quarantine?
I haven't been able to do much since you can't surf and skate only in private places.

If you had to give a message to the public regarding the coronavirus, what would it be?
Ultimately, this virus makes no social distinction; we must all help each other, like a family. We are a small country, but we have tried to help those most in need. I am sure we will get through this, as we have with previous illnesses, so let's take care of ourselves and stay home.
