The Hotel Tramonto facilities will host a national surfing festival.

Today, the first edition of the Surfing Nights Night Surf Championship will take place in front of the Hotel Tramonto facilities in Playa Hermosa.

The event is expected to start at 3:30 pm with an air show, registration is completely free and the winner will receive a Wooster Surfboards board.

Following the aerial show, the night competition will begin at 6:00 pm and will feature the best national surfing athletes.


For the Men's Open category, the registration fee will be $15, with the chance to win 20,000 miles and $500 to be shared among the winners. Surfing Republica has also opened the competition to a Women's category with free registration.

A curious fact about the tournament will be the presence of Matthews Vanderhoogth, an adaptive surfer who will set a record as the first surfer in his category to compete against able-bodied surfers. And if that weren't enough, he'll be doing it at night. Furthermore, Matthews is seeking to raise funds to attend the World Championship in his category and proudly represent his country.

The event will feature music by local DJ Enso, whose tunes will get everyone dancing. Following the surf performance, the after-party will move to Jaco Bar on Jacó Beach, starting at 11:00 pm.

For the safety of the competitors, the event will have two Jet Skis on the water to supervise the tournament.
