National surfer will seek CT requalification and historic pass to the Olympics in Hawaii.

Costa Rican surfer Brisa Hennessy secured ninth place at the ninth stop of the World Surfing Tour, the same position obtained by Paige Hareb, a direct rival in the Tokyo 2020 aspirations.
The Matapalo native had options to secure her presence at the Olympic Games and her requalification with one CT date left to compete, however, with these results, Hennessy will have to seek these two objectives in Honolua Bay, Hawaii, the last stop of the tour.

Brisa has a mathematically strong chance of becoming the first Costa Rican athlete to compete in surfing's Olympic debut. The only outcome that would prevent this historic event is if Hennessy loses in the elimination round (Round 2) and Paige Hareb wins the event.

Hennessy only needs to advance one heat in the perfect right-hand waves of Honolua Bay on Maui and with this he would secure his place at Tokyo 2020.

However, the concern for the Costa Rican now lies in the issue of requalification, because the Australian Nikki Van Dijk is in the quarterfinals and if she advances in Portugal she would surpass the national in the ranking, a situation that would put her presence at the CT 2020 on the American island at risk.
