45 diputados piden al Gobierno reabrir por 3 horas diarias las playas de Garabito

45 members of parliament ask the Government to reopen the beaches of Garabito for 3 hours a day

A group of 45 deputies from various political parties sent a letter to several high-ranking officials of the Executive Branch requesting the reopening of beaches in the canton of Garabito, for a period of three hours every day.

The letter, led by National Restoration deputy Melvin Nuñez, asks President Carlos Alvarado and his ministers of Health, Daniel Salas; and Sports, Hermes Solano, to reopen businesses during the hours of 5 am to 8 am.

According to the legislators, the purpose of reopening this area is to safeguard the physical and mental health of Garabito residents, who are overwhelmed by job losses and the loss of their livelihoods. This designated area would allow residents of the canton to walk, jog, surf individually, practice water sports, and engage in artisanal fishing, but would not permit commercial activities.

It would also be prohibited to put chairs for sunbathing, consume food and drinks, congregate in the parking lot, converse, or any other group activity.

"We wish to bring to your attention the pressing situation of our population, which includes senior citizens, children, youth, adults, fishermen, athletes, and sportspeople who have a strong connection to the beaches of our canton and for whom these are an essential part of their daily lives, a source of subsistence, health, and well-being," the letter states.

The Municipality of Garabito would be responsible, through its security officials, for ensuring that the behavior of citizens adapts to the conditions for reopening.

Congressman Nuñez indicated that after observing the public's response to this reopening, this initiative could be replicated on other beaches in the country.

"The priority is the same as yours: to preserve the overall health of the population and these measures will contribute to this purpose, in addition to the economic suffocation that surrounds us will be relieved through the controlled opening of these public spaces," the letter adds.
